- Description
- Three tipis stand in close proximity in an open meadow. Small piles of wood are next to the tipis, and one tipi has a wagon wheel propped up against it. In between the middle and tipi on the far left stand several Native Americans, an adult and two children. The adult is wearing a capote with horizontal stripes. Behind these people is a wagon that looks like a buckboard. Behind and to the left of the buckboard is a horse or a cow. Another person wearing dark clothing is standing by the door of the tipi on the far right.
- Tribal Notes
- An outside photograph of three canvas tipis with two women and two children. The first tipi has a rope from the front to the side and tied to the side in the ground to a root digger. Behind this one is another one with an unidentified woman standing in the doorway. She has a shawl over her shoulders and a scarf over her head. On the edge of the photograph is a wagon wheel next to the tipi. On the second tipi there is some kind of writing on the canvas to the right of the door. In the back is the third tipi with one woman and two children who look like they have their backs to the camera. They are also standing in front of the tipi door. Behind the last tipi is a wagon and farther back is a horse. The background is all open ground. In the left side of the photograph is the foothill of the Blue Mountains. This place has been identified as Tutuilla Flats looking to the south west. Writing on the photograph is "Umatilla Reservation Christmas 1900 Major Moorhouse."
