| About the Artist | Allen Bruce Zee has been exploring the art of photography since 1969. It is often the intimate view that is most intriguing to him--the landscapes in the hood of a rusting auto, the intricacies of a ponderorsa bark, or the nautilus-like spirals of a staircase. He uses a painterly approach to his color work; the black and white photographs are imbued with an ethereal quality. The varied imagery is unified by a style that distills the visual reality into a transformed vision. His prints have been exhibited throughout the country and are in prominent collections. | Full Text | ALLEN BRUCE ZEE My earliest visual memory is at the age of eighteen months being held up to the window of our apartment near Lake Michigan in Chicago and witnessing a magnificent rainbow over the lake. Since that time I've been fascinated with the expressive qualities of color. Twenty years after that experience I began my photographic journey. I've been exhibiting my work through-out the country since 1970. My work is represented in 14 cities and included in many private and corporate collections. My most recent work are studies of the mythological landscapes found in close-ups of "maturing" vehicles. I teach for Portland Photographic Workshops and am particularly interested in the elements of the creative process and how people can more effectively tap their richness. I have strong attraction to eastern philosophy and culture, the practice of Tai Ch'i, music, chocolate, my wife and fun - but not necessarily in that order! |
