| Title | MCMLXXVII |
| Artwork Description | This piece is composed in black and white, with the addition of a few minor red accents and a neutrally toned square shape at the upper left corner of the piece. The central focus of the piece lies with the two triangles stacked along the left side of the piece that are next to a large, irregualarly shaped form in the middle of the piece. The background is orchestrated with choppy, black lines and the red accent. Variation between duplicate images directly relate to original source materials. |
| Description on Object | Etching & chine colle; 20 x16 inches; 1977 |
| Artist Statement | I received a BFA in painting from the Museum Art School in Portland in 1971. My work has been featured in numerous exhibitions including a one-person exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum Modern Art Pavilion. With the acquisition of an etching press in 1976 I began to work solely on etching and continue to do so. At present I am pursuing a mixture of imagery gleaned from art history, sidewalks, maps, fish, turtles, and shells, geometry, flowers, celestial skies, my daughter's world, etc. I am exhilarated and exhausted by drawing and forever excited by the powerful black density of an etched line. My work is included in the City of Portland and the Portland Art Museum also owns a copy of "MCMCXXVII" (Funkhouser, 1982). |
