| Title | Vega |
| Artwork Description | A wooden sculpture with three legs, supporting a madrone burl, oval-shaped piece that extends downward into a cone shape. The top of the piece is a bluish metal, perhaps a patinaed copper, with a brass opening in the middle. This is one of two images of the same piece. Irregularities between the pieces may reflect a difference in the source material. |
| Description on Object | Vega; William Moore; 1990; Copper, Brass, Maple, Madrone Burl; 19.5 x 11.5 x 10 inches |
| Artist Statement | Vega is turned from a small madrone burl, the form being a modified amphora, a form I have been exploring in many pieces over the last several years. This amphora has no feet. It cannot e set down without tipping over, giving it an aura of being for some special purpose. In Vega, the stand elevates the piece so we can look at it more at eye level, where it is seemingly less tied to gravity and the ground plane. The shiny brass escutcheon pins against the painted green copper are the source of the sculpture's asterial game. (Moore, 1991) |
