| Notes | The Lew Williams Chevrolet Dealership was recently listed in the National Register as an important local example of post-World War II modern era commercial architecture and also for its association with the changing infrastructure in Eugene during this period. The dealership's display pavilion, attached to a former Coca-Cola bottling plant, was designed in 1959 by local architecture firm Balzhiser, Seder, and Rhodes and embodies the futuristic aspects of mid-century commercial architecture with its oval shape, glass walls, and the ultramodern, aerodynamic nature of its roofline. The placement of the dealership and modern display pavilion along Franklin Boulevard was strategic in an era of expanding transportation infrastructure and commercial development in Eugene. The dealership, which opened in 1960, later became known as the Joe Romania Chevrolet Dealership in 1969, and remained in the Romania family until the property was purchased by the University of Oregon in 2005. |
