| Creator Notes | Walter L. Gordon was born September 8, 1907, in Buffalo, New York. He married Margaret Murray on July 4, 1936. He received his BA from Princeton in 1930 and his MA in Architecture in 1932. Gordon served as curator of the San Francisco Museum of Art, 1937-1939 and as assistant director of the Portland Art Museum, 1939-1941. He practiced as an architect for A. E. Doyle & Associates (headed by Pietro Belluschi) from 1940 until he established his own practice. Gordon served as dean of the School of Architecture & Allied Arts, 1958-1962 and as faculty member of Reed College, 1962-1965. He was senior partner of Gordon and Hinchliff from 1962 to 1972 when he established his own practice. He died in Newport, Oregon, on April 5, 1997. His principal works include the Toledo Public Library, Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Newport), Southwest Hills Library (Portland), Apha Phi Sorority House (Corvallis, and the dormitories, library, and faculty residence hall of Marylhurst University. |
